about

An instrumental duo album. Just one day that stands out even in retrospect as perhaps the most fun I've ever had with an instrument and with a friend.

At some point in 2021, living on the water in Seattle I was hearing in my head what I thought was a song by someone else. A few years after THAT I fumbled through some junk on a hard drive for a while and my jaw dropped when I found the track that became "Windless Flowers, Waterless Rains." It all came rushing back, that some days you just *remember* how it was, and you can *feel* yourself blowing the doors off of a practice room. I remember that whole week I had a metronome going at 5bpm in my ears all day and I’d be walking, talking In sept and octuplets all the time being sure to snap on the downbeats. Ben always knows exactly what to do, and together, the synthesis is such that I've never had more fun on my guitar.

So alas! here it is! years later and yet not too late at all!

The idea of splitting a continuous improvisation into episodes gives it the feeling I get when listening to Shostakovitch symphonies, however grandiose that sounds. Each track very much feels connected and not in isolation, but equally stands out as a different character than what came before and after.

More than anything of a technical matter, I find that my biggest musical struggles are knowing "why" and where I'm doing this. Ben has always been capable of anything and everything. He musically redefines what it is that I consider possible. On this singular day I think back to feeling like I was capable of exactly what I wanted, and I couldn't be more grateful to be PUSHED by that.

I’ve included the whole improvisation as 2 tracks split up, part 1 and 2 as the as the last tracks. If you buy the album you get to download the cute little reels that are on my instagram for a few of the excerpts. I'll work on a few more as time goes on!

Thank you for the great music Ben. You're my hero.
